About the Owner
Robert Steuer’s father was a Pathologist, but his avocation was one of an artist who loved the land. Robert grew up on the family farm, and attended college preparatory school in a neighboring town. He began his first ‘official’ job working for a local nursery in summer at the age of 16. He continued that job, as well as working for landscape maintenance companies throughout his undergraduate years. After achieving a BA in History from the University of South Carolina, Robert decided to marry his love of the arts with his love of the land by heading to Athens, Georgia to procure a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture.
Upon graduation, Robert worked for Hugh Dargan Associates in Charleston, SC. Although he appreciated the world famous English Garden design work of Dargan Associates, he found himself longing to work in the field as well as at the design table. After working for several other design and build landscape companies, Robert went into business for himself in 1999. Since then, Robert has been devoted to creating truly spectacular spaces for his clients to live in and enjoy. His extensive knowledge of agronomy and horticulture along with a wealth of resources allows him to perfect any project.

Verdant Landscape & Construction grew from Robert Steuer’s love for creating stunning outdoor spaces. The name itself, derives from Robert’s high school days where Shakespeare opened up a world filled with descriptive and eloquent words and phrases. “Verdant” refers to a rich, green, and lush grass landscape. Since Verdant Landscape & Construction breathes life into outdoor living spaces, the name fit.
The Verdant Landscape & Construction team continues to embody this concept every step of the way. Our exceptional skills in Landscape Architecture means we deliver far more than the average landscape company. With over 30 years of experience, our landscape architects perform expert site analysis, site inventory, land planning, planting design, hardscape design, grading, stormwater management, sustainable design, and construction specifications. We ensure that all plans meet the current building codes, as well as local and federal ordinances. Our ultimate goal is to work with you to create an outdoor living area you can love and enjoy. We aim to provide the highest quality of service to all of our clients and want each and every client to be beyond satisfied with the end results.

Robert Steuer designed and installed the landscape for Swansgate Village in Myrtle Beach 15 years ago. The project won an award for its development. And although our team is not involved in the maintenance aspect, we are very proud contributors of the initial landscape design.
